The Queen of Darkness by Rosie, Anjelica and Obi

School: Heathbrook School
Borough: Lambeth
Info: The Queen of Darkness was made using card, cardboard tubes, wire, papier mache and paint. They imagined her reclining on the plinth surveying Trafalgar Square waiting for darkness to fall, when she would come into her own. The sculpture was the culmination of a project that took place over half a term in which Year 6 learnt about sculpture for public spaces and thought about Trafalgar Square in particular. It was decided to work in the tradition of abstract figure sculpture and the children worked in groups taking inspiration from artists such as David Smith, Picasso, Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth , Philip King and Reg Butler.
